I’ve been really bad being enthused to blog lately. I’m not sure why. I think it’s because I’ve got SO much going on it became way too daunting to update this thing with all I’ve been up to.
Currently I’ve got a bunch different personal projects on the go, including an app I’ve 95% completed but there’s a hella annoying bug in it I haven’t sussed yet. As well as that I’ve been doing this weird thing called having a life and I’ve been spending more time going outside, to concerts and generally not sitting at my computer. I hit a wall a few weeks ago where I was just exhausted and didn’t want to work on my projects in my spare time because I felt mentally drained and just wanted to sit and watch TV.
So yeah, I guess I just feel like I’ve been doing too much lately, and at the same time not enough because I have a bunch half finished stuff I’m working on. But I’ve put everything on hold for the time being whilst I study for my Red Hat exam. Which is the main thing I want to get ticked off this year. I’m pencilled in for the exam early next month, so pretty much all spare time is currently devoted to studying for that.
But, I felt the need to post art, because I have a few bits from the past few months to share.
Xar turned 15 recently so I’ve been drawing him a bunch. What else is new? I went to see The Killers and U2 over the weekend, they were both amazing. U2 were actually better than I thought they’d be. So I’m currently all ‘WOW’ over them.
Okay, I think that’s all I got for now. Hopefully my next post won’t be ages away.
For NanoWriMo I wrote about my characters, mostly the dragon ones. I plan on putting everything I’ve written together in some sort of eBook format; more-so for myself than anyone else. I’m not ready to show off any writing yet, but I’m also trying to draw an image per chapter. I finished this one today of Xar and Kline.
In the chapter, Xar and Kline are living in the wilderness and take refuge in some rice bags under a random house’s shelter. Xar and Kline take a look through the window and Kline realises that it’s Christmas. Xar is around three-four years old, and has never experienced Christmas. So he explains it to him while they try to keep warm from the snow.
So today is the twelfth birthday of my oldest character which I still write about and draw today, it’s Xar!
Twelve years with a character makes me feel old. There are some other creatures and things I drew in high school which get the occasional re-draw now, but nobody like Xar. I first drew him when I was… 13? Next year he’ll have been around for half my life. That’s crazy. As such I feel oddly attached the the hideously pink dragon guy.
It’s weird to explain, because it sounds so lame to be attached to this thing you’ve been drawing for so long. But twelve years of drawing and writing about this dragon, who started out as a baby the first time I wrote about him, it’s like he grew up with me. Technically Kline (the dog) is just as old as Xar, so that’s pretty cool too. Both characters have been constantly written about for twelve years so there’s some cringe-worthy fiction lying around about them from when I was a twelve year old terrible writer. I don’t really think of myself as a good writer now, but compared to how I was it’s a big difference.
Anyway, as well as awful stories lying around there are also some epic old drawings by myself and friends. I can’t wait to make my friends cringe when I show them these bad boys. I’ve tried to list them from the newest to the oldest pictures as best I can, but I’m not sure how accurate this is.
Happy birthday Xar.
